27 January

Hanna and I walked to Hellbrunn

It was a ridiculously scenic walk.

RIDICULOUSLY SCENIC
Probably should've taken more pictures of the mountains...and fortress...and tree-lined lanes...but this is what you get

You know I'm bad--I'm bad!

Oh HEJ Salzburg open library. Take a limited number for a limited time,
no questions asked. yeah.

On the road again

Hellbrunn.

Sun dial on ze palace

I MEAN YOU CAN JUST TAKE BOOKS

Salzburg Kuh

Milkin' it...

So there you have it! Hanna and I walked and talked for almost 2 hours on our way to a palace. Then we took a bus to Mirabell and walked home. Then homework and more Aristotle and how am I  gonna make my paper ridiculously cool? and my Philosophy professor told me University of Salzburg classes are free to sit in on so you know what I'll be doing in my "spare time" next week.

K bye

P.S. 2500 page views? yay

25 January

This is what I did today...

New hat! and scarf! oh, and those are my friends

Walkin into the Altstadt...ja, this is where I live

Grace and I by the Salzach

We walked around the beautiful snow covered city!!

We went to Heart of Joy!!

I got warm soy/almond milk and vegan cake and it was amazing and we stayed for hours and I did homework and I finished Aristotle's chapters on friendship...

Studious

Too good

Studious

Walked home.

ate potato for dinner w/ delicious pesto spread I got at the Thursday markets...

Worked out in the hall, while these goons talked and joked and critiqued my burpees.

Cass and 'Chelle

I want to do the splits and handstands and full-lotus bleeeeehhhhhh

That is what I did today.

Our cafe!!

After a grueling search through the Salzburg snow, a month-long journey with countless ups and downs, Hanna and I have found our café! Heart of Joy is a 10-15 minute walk from campus, it has delicious DELICIOUS vegan options, and is home to some great vibes. One of the guys who works there has dreads kept in a bun on the top of his head and BOOM! welcome to the crossroads of Portland and Salzburg.

Lentils, salad and rice...oh my!

"Don't look at me."

Sam!

On Thursday Hanna, Nicole, Bethany, Michelle and I went to the Thursday markets. After the markets we all went to Heart of Joy and I got the best sandwich.ever.

ever.

Tofu.tomato.oliveoil.mustard.toasted.lettuce.delicious.ermahgerd

Walked back to le center. Hanna found a fallen potato (I thought I had dropped one of the guys I bought at the market, but no).

ANYWAY. Mission accomplished. Hanna and I have our cafe. and it has amazing vegan options. and happiness abounds.

Oh! and I am writing about Aristotle's view of friendship for my Philosophy midterm paper. Reading The Nicomachean, well the chapters on friendship at least, and it is AMAZING. Besides Aristotle's blatant misogyny, he has some great observations on 'perfect friendship' and I am really excited to develop my paper.

21 Jänner

Class
Haus der Natur
Class
Inauguration
Homework
Hair cut
Homework

First things first:

I got a haircut! It's too short on the sides, but it'll grow out quick--bonus, though, I can now see what I would look like if I had been in a concentration camp (legitimate thought that has been with me foreva)

ANYWAY

Salzburg's Haus der Natur is 4 floors of wicked-cool science crap--there are also 3 floors of interactive fun that was probably meant for grade-schoolers but shut up! leave me alone!

A lot of the exhibits had 3d wall paintings so the glass rooms looked like entire landscapes IT WAS SOOO KEWL ERMAHGERD

Giant squid...duh

cool fish in the aquarium

The creepiest creature

MINERALS (this one if from Arkansas!) reminded me of environmental sci

Wicked cool pics of humans' impact on the earth through these artsy-bird's eye pics

TAXIDERMY IS MY FAVORITE...uhhh no

TURTLE (my friend Chelle**and she wouldn't even be the one standing up)

Eye found the human anatomy exhibit far out, dood

If you believe...they put a man on the moon..man on the moon

Interactive wheelchair timed courses eee

Mikayla and I went to the Haus der Natur for a German project, and then rushed to grab some veggie chow mein, then went to Philosophy which is my most compelling class. Today we went over Plato's Theory of Forms, which we've all heard a zillion times, I know, but my professor presented Plato in the best, most refreshing way and OHMYGOD it's one of those classes that gets you thinking, y'know? and I'm going to talk at great length with Hanna and Chelle about class today and I'm excited and thank God(desses) I have an intellectually stimulating class.

So after Phl a group of us scuttled to the Stieglbräu for Obama's inauguration speech (we missed the first half), but the second half was well worth the walk. Somewhere between President Obama's support for gay marriage and Michelle Obama's bangs I realized I will always have permanent residence in America. Beyonce owning the national anthem (when she ripped out the ear-thing!?) may have convinced me, too. Regardless of your politics, Inauguration Day is a moment when we can all appreciate democracy and marvel at our country's beautiful history and traditions. Thank God(desses) for the land of the free and the home of, like, all my best friendssss!!1!!1!

ANYWAY now my hair is kind of crazy short--but hey! it's just hair. Short hair-don't care.

So bye.
